Join the DCS Coroflot group

So you’re all like, “Well I’d like to put my work online, but I don’t wanna have to learn all that HTML crap.” So you forsake the interwebs and invest your life savings in a billboard to display your resume, salary requirements and list of references. Many years later, you die alone and penniless.

The truth is, there are enough resources online right now that don’t require any HTML knowledge whatsoever that your grandmother could create an online portfolio of all her knitted Dachshund sweaters without missing Matlock. So what’s the hold up? Put the kibosh on that outdoor media buy and start clicking links!

One great, free solution is Coroflot. Think of it as half LinkedIn, two quarters Facebook, and 3 parts Flickr. Here are some things you can do with it:

  1. Upload images of all your work and organize them into categories like “Print” or “Awesome”
  2. Post your resume in a digital, search-able format
  3. Advertise whether or not you’re actively seeking work
  4. Be contacted by people who want to hire you
  5. Join groups on Coroflot like the Dayton Creative Syndicate to show off your work, join discussions, and network with people

Coroflot isn’t the only solution out there (more on that later!) but it’s a really great one. Once you create your profile, make sure you join the DCS Coroflot group.

Update to DCS August Happy Hour

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Just a follow up to the earlier post about the DCS happy hour at Adobe Gila’s at The Greene this past Monday.

For our fifth DCS social event, AG’s proved to be an excellent venue, lots of open area, a nice indoor / outdoor mix that seemed very popular. I think we had an all-time high attendance somewhere in the mid 40’s. Best of all lots of new faces to go along with the many we’ve become accustomed to seeing at our socials. A nice mix of creatives, vendors and members and non-members alike—the crowd also seemed to stay around a bit longer than previous events.

Many of the new attendees were excited and interested and to learn more about both the DCS and opportunities to lend the group a hand. We were also thrilled to have two shirts donated by FourAmbition as door prizes for a couple of lucky winners! Many thanks to FourAmbition. Check out their site and the services they offer.

Be sure to see the photos of the winners and proof of others who were there. Many thanks to every one who attended this event and to all of our DCS board members who were on hand and the efforts they put forth.
