GOTV Posters Showcased @ The Excelsior Lofts

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

November 7th 2008, The Get Out The Vote poster contest was the first competition sponsored by the DCS and sought to raise voter awareness and inspire people to vote in this years general election. After appearing in our on-line gallery the top 25 entries were featured on display in the November occurrence of the Downtown Dayton Partnership’s First Friday at the Excelsior Lofts in the historic Oregon District. The use of the Excelsior Lofts was donated, by owner, Tom Tornatore, who graciously opened his doors to the DCS and gave us free rein of his space to create a wonderful urban setting for our show.

Attendance was good throughout the night, despite bad weather conditions. We saw between 50 and 60 people walk through the display as well as having a solid turn out of volunteers and DCS members to help run the event. Special thanks again to our judges; Dan Johnson, Ken Botts and Scott Hull who collectively selected the winner, Cameron Braun’s entry.

Cameron, a Cedarville college graduate, who works at Wilson Advertising, was very excited to win the first DCS competition and was on hand to celebrate his winning entry with a few photos and light discussion.

DCS enjoys a night with Clint! Runge @ OE

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

November 05 2008, Clint! Runge, a guy so cool, he needed an exclamation mark after his first name, took a break from the hustle and bustle of his cool company Archrival so he could swing into Dayton and speak to the Greater Dayton Advertising Association. Only the DCS members high-jacked and took him to out to The Oregon Express the night before he was due to speak.

I gotta say we really enjoyed having a captive speaker at our beck and call to pose in funny pictures and answer questions about the deep dark secrets, memorable experiences, the industry in general, clients, campaigns, the big dawg competitors they face down and chew up, ideas, trends and marketing strategy geared towards youth markets and audiences.

Thanks Clint! for spending the evening @ OE with the DCS. You’re always welcome in the Gem City.  Also a very special thanks to Joanie Spain who helped transport and host Clint!.

Be sure to check out all the great pictures from the event via our Flickr slideshow!

Update to DCS August Happy Hour

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Just a follow up to the earlier post about the DCS happy hour at Adobe Gila’s at The Greene this past Monday.

For our fifth DCS social event, AG’s proved to be an excellent venue, lots of open area, a nice indoor / outdoor mix that seemed very popular. I think we had an all-time high attendance somewhere in the mid 40’s. Best of all lots of new faces to go along with the many we’ve become accustomed to seeing at our socials. A nice mix of creatives, vendors and members and non-members alike—the crowd also seemed to stay around a bit longer than previous events.

Many of the new attendees were excited and interested and to learn more about both the DCS and opportunities to lend the group a hand. We were also thrilled to have two shirts donated by FourAmbition as door prizes for a couple of lucky winners! Many thanks to FourAmbition. Check out their site and the services they offer.

Be sure to see the photos of the winners and proof of others who were there. Many thanks to every one who attended this event and to all of our DCS board members who were on hand and the efforts they put forth.
